TAILWHEEL FLYING
A tailwheel endorsement is the penultimate upgrade to your landing and take-off skills (only exceeded by floats/water design features!)

At Bunbury Aero Club we are proud to have a number of instructors rated to teach tailwheel.

For pilots looking to transition across to tailwheel aircraft, we currently operate an American Champion Super Decathlon (VH-FKM, 8KCAB pictured above)- from the same aircraft family as the Citabria and the Scout (aircraft known to be operated locally by fire-spotters and other services)

Our current hourly rate is $595 per hour, dual, wet!! You will not find better value Australia wide, as there are no landing fees and no circuit fees at Bunbury Airport!

We estimate 7-9 hours as a ball park time to transition to a tailwheel aircraft, if you are 'flying fit'. For those pilots who don't fly regularly, or haven't flown in a while, it may take a little longer. Please note this is only a guide - some can do it quicker, some take longer to master the art of tailwheel flying! The endorsement is 'competency-based', not time-based. A tailwheel aircraft will test your landing and take-off skills, especially in a crosswind, and the time spent training will really elevate your aircraft handling skills!

This is also a perfect aircraft for your spin and aerobatics training, and general tailwheel flying. Subject to a check-flight (for insurance purposes) the Super Decathlon is available for Private Hire at the rate of $455. We don't require you to become a member of the Aero Club to private-hire the aircraft (though it is nice if you do, as there are plenty more benefits!) but you will be required to complete a private-hire agreement with us.
