Start with a recreational licence and buzz around your local airspace or go all the way to a career in aviation...

Recreational Pilot Licence

For the pilot who flies for fun

  • You will be able to hire Bunbury Aero Club aircraft or fly your own aircraft

  • You can carry passengers (subject to your Medical Clearance) up to 1500kg aircraft (Pilot, passengers, fuel, cargo and aircraft)

  • You can fly up to 25 nautical miles from the departure aerodrome

  • You must only fly during the daytime - between 'first light' and 'last light'

  • You must be at least 16 years old

  • You must hold an aviation medical clearance

  • Endorsements available to expand flying capabilities - navigation, controlled airspace/terminals, design-features (inflight adjustable propeller, retractable undercarriage)

  • 1 Theory exam & flight test required - additional theory exam for Navigation Endorsement, or a check-flight for other endorsements

  • Minimum 25 hours to complete - 20 dual (with an instructor) and 5 solo (under the direct supervision of an instructor)

  • Can NOT earn an income from flying for any reason.

Private Pilot Licence

For the recreational pilot flying larger aircraft, more passengers, further from home

  • May carry multiple passengers (subject to medical clearance)

  • You can hire Bunbury Aero Club aircraft or your own aircraft

  • Fly in uncontrolled & controlled airspace anywhere in Australia, subject to airways clearances.

  • Endorsements Available to expand flying capabilities - night, multi-engine, instrument

  • Must be at least 17 years old

  • Must hold a Class 2 aviation medical

  • Maximum aircraft weight at take off is 5700kg

  • 1 Theory exam & flight test required for the licence - additional endorsements may have additional requirements

  • Minimum 40 hours to complete (training from your RPL is included)

Commercial Pilot Licence

For the pilot seeking a career in aviation

  • May earn income from flying duties

  • Fly in uncontrolled & controlled airspace anywhere in Australia

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Must hold a Class 1 aviation medical 

  • Endorsements available to expand flying capabilities

  • 7 Theory exams & flight test

  • Minimum 200 hours to complete
